A one-week workshop geared at raising the level of participation of children in the sport of volleyball has been organized jointly by the St. Kitts Amateur Volleyball Association (SKAVA) and the Ministry of Education.
Mr. Westman stated, “St. Kitts has a lot of potential in the sport. Of course there are challenges in terms of facilities, as it is with many of the other territories I have visited, but it is good that they are cognizant and taking this approach to try to strengthen the sport locally.”
Education Officer with responsibility for Physical Education and Sport, Stanley Knight said the Course would include students from two primary schools coming in for practical sessions which constitute 60 percent of the training time.
He said this would give teachers and coaches involved in the workshop first-hand experience with introducing youths to the sport.
Mr. Knight revealed further that subsequent to the training, “a specialist from the International Volleyball Federation will be attached to schools to assist them in designing volleyball programmes as part of the schools’ curriculum.
