Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, has lauded the Skills For The Future Programme which encompasses the Competency-Based Training Fund (CBTF).

Speaking at a recent ceremony at which the CBTF disbursed the first cycle of funds to seven Barbadian partnerships, Senator Byer Suckoo (centre) noted projects being implemented under the Skills For the Future Programme and by extension the Human Resource Development Strategy will assist the Government of Barbados in achieving its goal of increasing competitiveness, promoting sustainable growth and facilitating poverty alleviation.

In praising the CBTF initiative, she noted that by its conclusion, it “would have contributed to the development of a demand driven education and training system that produces workers who are trained, competent and certified as competent in their respective occupations”.

The CBTF is just one part of Government’s “Skills for the Future Programme” which was launched in association with the Inter-American Development Bank, earlier this year. This programme’s overall aim is to enhance the competitiveness of the local workforce through the use of Technical Vocational Education and Training. (JH/BGIS)
