GUYANESE VESSEL FOUND WITH COCAINE, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS ANSWERS CHARGES
Guyanese national Winston Leslie Fitzgerald Phillips, 48 year old boat captain, appeared at the District A Magistrates Court on Monday June 30 and was fined $100,000.00 forthwith on the charge of Importation of cannabis or 3 months in prison. He was CRD on the remaining seven charges.
He was at the time charged for:
1. Possession of 2 kilos of cocaine
2. Possession with intent to supply;
3. Trafficking; and
4. Importation of cocaine.
5. Possession of 37 lbs of cannabis
6. Possession with intent to supply;
7. Trafficking; and
8. Importation of cannabis.

An operation was carried out on Friday February 7, 2014 by members of the Customs and Excise Department, the Drug Squad and supported by the Police Canine Unit, Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard, on board the Guyanese register ship ‘Rudisa Global‘, which was berthed at the Bridgetown Port. In the operation, Customs personnel discovered 37 lbs of cannabis and 2 kgs of cocaine hidden in cabins, and Phillips, who was the captain, was subsequently charged by Police. Phillips first appeared at the District A Magistrate Court on Monday February 10, 2014, and was remanded.
