Local dancing talent is at a very high level according to the Caribbean Premier League’s (CPL) cheerleading head coach and coordinator.
Trinidadian image, promotions and model consultant, Marcelle Patricia Latour Du Coudray, recently carried out an audition on behalf of the CPL and Digicel, where 24 young dancers vied for a spot on the cheerleading team to be on show for the Barbados leg of CPL matches on July 23rd, 25th and 26th.
Affectionately known as “Pixie“, Ms. Du Coudray, indicated that it was a difficult task to select the 12 cheerleaders and 4 reserves from the full complement of girls who auditioned.
“The girls here in Barbados were very impressive. Not only were they very talented dancers, but more impressively they were all extremely pleasant, well-spoken, intelligent and not to mention beautiful. I could not have asked for a better bunch to choose from, however, that meant the task of disappointing eight of them was even harder and I was forced to call on my many years of experience.”
Ms. Du Coudray stated that this was the third territory she had visited on her tour around the region, selecting the best cheerleaders for the tournament which begins on July 11th in Grenada.
“Prior to Barbados I visited Guyana and St. Lucia and I must admit that thus far Barbados has produced the cream of the crop. Kudos to the dance instructors and academies on the island, as well as the young ladies who are certainly aware that there’s a lot more that goes into representing a brand like the CPL and of course Digicel.”
Over the 2-day audition the dancers were taken through their paces, where they were required to pick up the various routines and cues quickly, while impressing “Pixie” and her team with their poise, class and charm.
At the end of day one, the group was cut, with the final 16 being announced by the end of day two.
Throughout the matches being held in Barbados, the cheerleaders will be split into two groups, with six cheerleaders and two reserves being allocated to cheer for the Barbados and opposing teams respectively.
