The Charleston Senior Citizen Home in St. Stephen’s Hill was abuzz recently as Rotaract Barbados West donated care packages to the residents.
Rotaract Barbados West is the youth arm of The Rotary Club of Barbados West. The donation was the Club’s first engagement with the community. On this inaugural event, Director of Community Service, Sheryne Lorde, stated “We chose this as our first project because the elderly are the ones who built the society we live in today and fought for the opportunities we now enjoy, so we thought it important to show our appreciation and give back.”
The residents were interactive and reminded the youth to keep God close; “Regardless of what you have, what ya ain’t have, remember the Almighty.” said 95- year old Ms. Clytie Prescott.
President of the Rotaract Barbados West, Shalisha Samuel, shared the Club’s vision of having a measureable impact on the lives of people. The donation represents the Club’s resolve to achieve results with their available resources. The Club will seek to use creative thinking in establishing strategic partnerships throughout the year.
The Director of Community Service took part in the Tuesday morning devotions at the home to further establish their relationship. The Club will soon begin talks to discuss this year’s activities for an ongoing partnership with the home.
