Jamaican and Barbadian arrested for drug offences at the airport

Police have arrested and charged Jamaican national Jeffrey Jermaine Thompson 23 years for the following offences committed at the Airport on 17 February 2014:

  • Possession
  • Possession with intent to supply
  • Trafficking; and
  • Importation of 2 1/2 lbs of cannabis.

 

Thompson arrived by air from Jamaica on February 17, 2014 about 4.30 pm and was interviewed by Police. He was referred to a Customs where a search of his luggage and his person were conducted and a package containing the illegal drugs were discovered concealed in his underwear he was wearing. The drug weighed 2 1/2 lbs.

Thompson appeared in the Oistins Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Ms Pamela Beckles on the 2014-02-19. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was given a CRD for the offences of possession of cannabis, trafficking in cannabis and possession with intent to supply. For the offence of Importation he was fined thirty thousand dollars ($30.000.00) forthwith or 18 months in prison. The fine was not paid.

SYLVAN FRANKLIN CHARGED FOR DRUG OFFENCE

Sylvan Oscar Franklin 42 yrs of Drax Hall Hope, Saint George was arrested and charged for the offence of Trafficking in a controlled drug to wit: Cannabis, which he committed at the Grantley Adams International airport on the 2014-02-17.

On February 17, 2014, members of the Drug Squad arrested Jamaican national Jeffrey Thompson at the airport for committing drug related offences, where he was held with 2 1/2 lbs of cannabis. Further investigations led to the involvement of Barbadian Sylvan Franklin who was arrested and charged for the mentioned offence.

Sylvan Franklin later appeared in the Oistins Magistrates Court on the 2014-02-19 before Chief Magistrate Ms. Pamela Beckles, where he pleaded guilty to the charge. He was fined thirty thousand dollars ($30,000.00) Barbados currency to be paid in three (3) months or eighteen (18) months in prison. He was granted bail in the sum of $30,000.00 with one surety.
