The Collector’s Club, a group well known on Barbados for its promotion of the visual arts through many successful exhibitions and the producer of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in the Visual Arts, is pleased to announce a collaboration with one of Barbados’ most acclaimed designers.

The Club is producing a unique retrospective – “Classic Cadogan – the Fashion Artistry of Carol Cadogan“. This is the first time in Barbados that a retrospective of “fashion as art” has been exhibited on this scale, drawing on over 20 pieces kindly lent by their owners.

Carol Cadogan-Fox's high couture fashion designs, dubbed Art-to -Wear, have received local and international acclaim for decades and graced international cat walks and the pages of publications such as Vogue, Elle and Glamour since the 1970's.
Carol Cadogan-Fox’s high couture fashion designs, dubbed Art-to -Wear, have received local and international acclaim for decades and graced international cat walks and the pages of publications such as Vogue, Elle and Glamour since the 1970’s.

After studying and working in New York in the 1960’s and ’70’s, Ms Cadogan returned to Barbados and continued her fashion design career , running her popular Petticoat Lane boutique. She branched out into interior design, creating, among others, the Barbados Pavilion at the Taejon World’s Fair in South Korea in 1993 and several stunning Barbados Government Pavilions at World Travel Markets.

In recent years she has turned to painting and had her first solo art exhibition in November 2011 at the Gallery of Caribbean Art.

But it is her high couture designs of wearable art that have been the most admired and prized by discerning women over the years. Carol has said that her inspiration for her clothing designs came from the flora, fauna and other glorious aspects of the Barbados landscape, drawing as well on her Brazilian and African heritage.

The exhibition will be held in the Gallery at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, UWI, Cave Hill from February 24 to March 1, 2014. The show will provide an educational and inspirational experience for young designers and will be an exciting and interesting visual treat for all. Student designers will be invited on a special day to observe the various techniques which were employed in the making of the garments.
