Blow for Barbados Sports Tourism: Dream Cup Now Postponed ’til 2014
The Dream Cup tennis tournament scheduled for November 28 to December 1, 2013, in Barbados, has been postponed until 2014 on a date to be confirmed in the near future. This postponement has resulted from player injury, which will prevent the hosting of the inaugural Dream Cup Barbados.
In a statement released on November 15, Richard Gasquet stated: “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Dream Cup at the end of this month. I would like to apologize to all the fans there since I was really looking forward to travelling to Barbados for the first time. Sadly I have injured my elbow and following my doctor’s advice I need to refrain from playing tennis for a minimum of three weeks. I will look forward to coming back in the near future”.
When notified of Richard Gasquet’s injury, attempts were immediately made to secure a replacement player of equal caliber, but unfortunately these were unsuccessful, as contingency players had already confirmed alternate plans at this late stage.
We, the organizers, believe it is in the best interest for all concerned to postpone this year’s event and focus on providing the unique and high quality event promised for the public and ESPN viewership in 2014. It is an unfortunate situation but circumstances resulting in this postponement are beyond our control. We sincerely apologize to all for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we look forward to seeing you in 2014.
