Did Customs feel a Trini was too cheeky? Bumper crop of Ganja netted at GAIA, in false backside prosthetic!

An accident occurred about 01:15 am on Monday 30 September 2013, at Four Square Road, St. Philip, resulting in the death of Govind Bhagwandat, 29 years of Harrow Land, St. Philip. He was a Guyanese national residing here.

Mr. Bhagwandat was at the time driving a motorcar along the said road when it became involved in a collision with another car driven by Hal Hunte, 41 years of Lead Vale, Christ Church.  Mr. Hunte complained of pains about his body and was taken to the QEH by ambulance.  They were both lone occupants in their respective motorcars.  Mr. Bhagwandat died at the scene.

MAN SHOT AT CONTENT, ST THOMAS

Derrick Haynes, 48 years of Ebenezer, St. Philip, received gun shot injuries to his back and left leg whilst at Content road, St. Thomas about 9:40 pm on Sunday September 29th 2013.

Mr. Haynes was taken to the QEH by ambulance, where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.

BUS ACCIDENT AT LAKES, ST. ANDREW

An accident involving an omnibus owned by the Transport Board occurred about 12:39 am on Monday 30 September 2013, at Lakes St. Andrew resulting in 7 persons complaining of injuries about their bodies. The bus which ran off the road was driven by Timothy Webster. The most serious of the injured passengers, a female, was transported to the QEH by ambulance.

Investigations are continuing.

CUSTOMS GETS TO BOTTOM OF SMUGGLING: TRINIDADIAN NATIONALS ON DRUG CHARGES

Kevin Brian Fortune, 29 yrs A Trinidadian national was arrested and charged that he on the 2013-09-29 committed the following offences while at the G.A.I.A.

1. Possession of Cannabis
2. Possession with intent to supply
3. Trafficking; and
4. Importation of 3 1/2 lbs of cannabis

He cleared Immigration and was interviewed by the police who referred him to Customs.  The illegal drug was discovered in a false buttock in the form of padded underwear. This false buttock was then examined and it contained two taped packages, weight 3 1/2 lbs.

He was charged for the offences and appeared at the District B Magistrates Court on Monday 30 September 2013.

TRINIDADIAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH SEIZURE AT AIRPORT

Further investigations into the above matter regarding the arrest of Kevin Fortune led to the arrest of Randy Avalon Ali, a Trinidadian national, residing at Thornbury Hill, Christ Church. He has been formally charged for the offence of Trafficking. He too appeared at the District B Magistrates Court on Monday 30 September 2013. Both in remand until 28 October 2013.

ROAD FATALITY AT BUSH HALL

An accident occurred about 3.30 am on Monday 30 September 2013, at the junction of Bush Hall Main Road and Codrington Road, St. Michael

The deceased is Frederick Bryan, 63 years of Hothersal Turning, St, Michael. At the time he was driving his motor car along Codrington Road, when the vehicle ran off the road and went into a permaclad fence. It has been reported that he was feeling unwell.

Investigations are continuing.

UPDATE INTO THE SEIZURE OF THE FIREARMS CACHE

Another man is currently assisting investigators into the seizures of 18 firearms on the 24 September 2013. A Further update will be issued shortly.
