Unacceptable! This is how the Young Women’s Christian Association view the recent statement made by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler relative to the Opposition Leader.

To suggest that Miss Mottley may soon "strip naked...."etc. is not a statement expected of someone holding one of the highest offices in this land and is disrespectful to the women of this nation.

At a time when national attention is being drawn to the issue of domestic violence in this county and when we are experiencing an obvious decline in our values relative to our treatment of each other, we cannot afford such irresponsible and disrespectful comments from our leaders. Our youth and citizens in general need to have confidence in our politicians to inspire and motivate, particularly at this time of economic uncertainty.

The YWCA President reflects; "Whereas the YWCA will not engaged in dialogue on the strategies of either political party, our responsibility is to promote Christian values in the discharge of the responsibility of those called to public office. We expect that our politicians will conduct their affairs in a manner that lends to the promotion of respect for each individual, decency and order, integrity and a commitment to the values we aspire to enhance the social fabric of our nation."

In light of this we expect that Minister Sinckler will come to Christian understanding and issue an apology for this unfortunate and unacceptable comment.
