Join the BCS Breast Screening Programme for their walk on October 6th 2013

WHO IS YOUR CHAMPION?

Many of us know of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer. We marvel at their strength and courage to overcome and fight the disease. They fight not only for themselves, but also for their families and loved ones. These persons inspire and encourage us to overcome our challenges with strength, grace and humility.

This year the BCS Breast Screening Programme invites you to share a short story (no more than 50 words) and picture of your "CHAMPION" who has either survived cancer or selflessly dedicated their life in the fight against cancer.

Today we openly applaud those men who have always taken charge of their health! You are definitely in a league of your own.

Truth be told, when it comes to scheduling monthly or yearly doctor visits, men are notorious foot-draggers.

In fact, some men would never go to the doctor if it were not for the women in their life. Experts say that men could benefit greatly by being alert to certain cancer symptoms that require a trip to the doctor sooner rather than later.

One of the goals at Bajan Fusion is to help bring about change, shape positive and healthier behaviours in Bajan communities. They aim to support, raise awareness and negate the rise in all cancers, diabetes, HIV and AIDS, obesity, heart attacks, strokes and the multitude of chronic non-communicable diseases, affecting and impacting our loved ones at home and abroad.

The Breast Screening Programme (BSP) of the Barbados Cancer Society was created in 2002. It is dedicated to the prevention of premature deaths from breast cancer by early detection. Early detection includes education on Breast Self Examination (BSE) and Mammography Screening. Through the support of many, the BSP has been able to offer outstanding screening services to the Barbados public at an affordable cost.

Our quarterly “Bicycle Boogie” 3 hr mountain bike tour with Trailseekers Barbados is one of our more popular events, where we witness more men in attendance as it is action packed, challenging, fun and adventurous. Pedal for a purpose was inspired by this observation and we saw this as the perfect opportunity to educate, empower, challenge and inspire men not only in our network but all men in Barbados to take charge, stand tall and get moving towards a healthier lifestyle.

Pedal For A Purpose is your opportunity to:
1. Make a commitment to take care of your overall health
2. Show the women in your lives that you are responsible
3. Pedal to show your love and support
4. Stand tall for the cause, for survivors and in memory of lost ones
5. Enjoy a fun and adventurous bike riding experience!
