BARBADIAN POLICE COMMISSIONER (Ag) ADDRESSES SOCIAL MEDIA PROBE & DISAPPEARANCE OF DAMIAN FOSTER

The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) being cognizant of the important role that members the public play in the administration of justice and consistent with their right to know, wish to inform that it has made significant progress in the investigations into the disappearance of Damian Foster.

Currently, two men are in custody and a decision has already been made as to the most appropriate charge to prefer against one of them. A decision as to the most efficacious charge to prefer against the second man will be made after further consultation with the Director of Public Prosecution. However, the investigations are incomplete; therefore the RBPF has to be cautious in its public statements. In this regard, the RBPF has no intention (at least not at this time) to engage in any discussion as to the whereabouts of the body. To do so may offend the bounds of sensitivity, especially the right of his family to be treated with the apposite consideration and empathy.

Additionally, the RBPF is constrained by it overarching responsibility to ensure it secures as opposed to taint the accused right to a fair trial.

None the less, the RBPF thanks the public for its overwhelming support and anticipates a continuance of public support as it seeks to complete a number of high profile cases.

The RBPF also want to publicly thank all the investigators for their commitment and dedication. Their efforts demonstrate that they fully understand that we work for a higher cause and that there is an inextricable correlation between crime management and holistic development.

It concerns the request made to FaceBook; the RBPF assures the public that the three enquiries were legitimate requests made by the Cyber Crime Unit in pursuance of matters that Unit is investigating.

Thank you
