Improved basketball facilities for Brades by February 2014, says Montserratian official

A new 800-seat basketball court is in the works for the Brades community. Acting Minister of Sports Jermaine Wade said the tender documents are presently being drafted for the construction of Phase One of the sporting facilities project.

Wade said the 1.5 million dollar project was approved in this year’s budget and will cover the construction of a pre-fabricated building which will be designed for multi-purpose sports use.

The complex will also include bathroom facilities, lockers, gym, equipment storage, two administrative offices, and ticket booths.

“We hope the tender packets will be ready by the end of August and that construction will begin before the end of the year. I am very optimistic that the project will be completed by February 2014 and will be used in the best interest of the development of athletes on Montserrat,” announced Wade.

The project also includes the development of a management system which will accommodate the court’s use for netball and volleyball competition as well until the second court is built.

The official explained that the entire sports facility upgrade is estimated at four million dollars with the netball court coming in Phase two.
