First Budget after Elections – will everyone hate Chris or which pill did Dr Worrell take, the red or blue?

For better or worse, more true than not, Bajan Reporter has attained a reputation of posing the queries everyone wants to level but are too scared to do so… This however leads to MP’s either leaving engagements earlier than expected or sometimes just refusing any question, especially if it’s me. It’s rather disheartening, in many ways – media colleagues beg me to stop, metaphorically, hitting “them” (meaning Ministers) so hard as they clam up even more… I have even been to Press Conferences and as soon as I arrive, it is abruptly announced there’ll be no Q&A! 🙁

Other times you get nimble dancers like Dr DeLisle Worrell who sees no reason to worry or even be concerned with foreign exchange so “depleted,” yet these are crucial issues which need precise accountability especially with the Budget now days away. I think what the Media and Government have forgotten is that MP’s can only achieve Office by votes (not BUY votes) and since they are in power by our selection, then WE are their bosses and if we ask what is going on? Tell us, it is our future you’re playing hob with!

If you have followed the Central Bank of Barbados' quarterly Reviews of Barbados' fiasco financial performance from 2010 or thereabouts, you may realise the crowd which regularly seeks some candidness from Dr Worrell has thinned a bit, when I asked those absent? I was told they were tired of the Governor's dance like Neo in the Matrix!

The Governor cannot tell the Minister what to do if you go by previous sessions, yet earlier this year he can open his mouth at a Social Partner meeting and declare we need to reduce expenditure by $400 million… So why has Freundel Stuart spent more money in where Barbados now has 65%, this up from 49% of the beleaguered airline while under Owen – does this now mean cheaper Airfares? Especially since LIAT’s service is yet to improve drastically? Presumably if another Low Fares Carrier comes forward with cap in hand, Fumble won’t be offering Designated Carrier status as he did to poor confused ? At least no would be confusing matters this time around, granting licenses yet purchasing new craft with another fleet?

Please watch the video where you'll see how I ask Dr Worrell if there is Quantitative Easing with both New & Old Currency floating around; the Governor does his best to dismiss or deflect any reply to my concerns...

Many Barbadians are scared Road Tax may go up as well as VAT, but Sinckler must bear the following in mind – this is no longer a 20 to 10 West Wing, this is now 16 to 14 with some alienated crew in the ruling party (why wasn’t James Paul made Agriculture Minister?); so any motions made this time around may not be punished with laughter, but an opportunity for the first female Prime Minister in fresh voting after 6 months?
