Marriott’s St Kitts Hotel exemplifies “Spirit to Serve” philosophy by partnering with Kittitian learning institution “AVEC”.

What does Spirit to Serve really mean? One St. Kitts hotel seems to have figured it out.

The St. Kitts Marriott Resort & the Royal Beach Casino has supported their local community since opening their doors in early 2003. Recently a host of school leaders from AVEC (Advanced Vocational Educational Center) spent a day at the resort preparing for their venture into the world of full-time employment.

Students were treated to presentations by Imelda Lane Director of Finance, Sarines Oliva Director of Sales & Marketing, Tim Prager Director of Engineering, Stephen Calland Director of Food & Beverage and Jacques Hamou General Manager. Presentations were also made by the Executive Chef William Stringfellow and Human Resource Manager Waveney Benjamin. These leaders were there to expound on their history with Marriott International and the St Kitts Marriott. Students were also provided insight into what employers look for in potential employees and how employees can become valued long term staff members in any institution. There was also a question and answer series at the end of each presentation providing the students with the opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the daily operations of the resort.

A comprehensive tour of the resort in St Kitts' facilities was also provided by Lavern Stevens Public Relations Manager. Throughout the tour stops were made at different departments and each department head was on-hand to speak to the students and provide clear and in-depth guidelines that govern their prospective areas.

“These partnerships are vital as we continue to make strides in assisting the community we call home,” says Lavern Stevens, Public Relations Manager. “We are happy to assist with the education of our future hospitality experts who may well become the next generation of leaders for this resort.”

This is the 2nd such event that the St Kitts resort has undertaken and intends to continue with these efforts in the years to come.

Not only is this St. Kitts and Nevis hotel supporting local organizations, the local health institutions are also beneficiaries of the resort’s generosity. The JNF General Hospital pediatric ward has become a focal point with the latest donation of books and toys all provided by associates of the resort.
