Guyana’s first batch of baseball coaches will graduate later this week from a baseball coaching course that they had recently undertook. In an exclusive interview with President of the Guyana Baseball League, Robin Singh indicated 25 participants took part in the course which was administered by the US baseball league.

He noted that participants were eager and excited to participate in the programme which he said will aid in spreading baseball throughout Guyana. “The course was a great one as the participants were all excited and eager to be taught the important knowledge of the sport as they seek to expand on the skills and techniques of players here in Guyana,” the sporting executive said.

Singh added he’s very thankful for what he described as the unbelievable and readily support of Noble House Seafoods in ensuring that the entire course was sponsored. “I must give kudos to Noble House Seafoods as they readily lent financial assistance so as to ensure that all the 25 participants could have undertaken the course,” he said. He pointed out that the course which cost in excess of 400,000.00 was completely sponsored by the fishery company. “When I approached the company’s General Manager he took one look at our plans and readily agreed to sponsor the course in full as he indicated that his company firmly feels that the training of the 25 coaches will help in spreading the sport thus ensuring that youth throughout Guyana can benefit in a very tangible manner,” the baseball official disclosed.

“It’s just like any product, we are seeking first to build and strengthen the sport so training is of paramount importance and this is why we are focusing first and foremost on ensuring that we equip persons with the coaching skills required thus resulting in building and developing the sport. However, I must commend Noble House Seafoods and its General Manager for playing the true role of corporate citizen by investing such a significant amount into ensuring that these coaches can be properly trained and certified,” Singh said.

The president revealed the coaches are all from Berbice. Singh is of the view this augurs well for the sport in terms of seeing it grow within schools adding that these teacher involvement and ability to coach will help in further developing the sport. “It’s nice to know that these teachers have seen it fit to get involved resulting in them being equip and certified to take the sport forward. As such, it is as very positive indication that the sport will continue to grow as with these teachers involvement it certainly will attract students to the sport which I must add has numerous opportunities,” he said.

Quizzed on why no teachers from the first batch are from Georgetown, Singh said that this is because the response was not an encouraging one. He said that the teachers in Berbice saw the opportunity to be trained and certified and acted immediately; “It is not as though we didn’t want to include teachers from Georgetown but the teachers in Berbice came together as a team and sought to maximize on the many opportunities that this training course provides.”

Singh said that another batch of coaches will be trained in his organization’s continued effort to popularize the sport while developing it further. He was however unsure as to when the next course will be held promising that their primary objective is to ensure that new coaches begins working on ensuring that those interested in the sport can further enhance and harness their skills.
