The time has come for all citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis to step forward in defense of their democracy and the rights that are enshrined in our independence constitution.
That journey to protect our fundamental constitutional rights begin today, but it shall take our ongoing and united effort to preserve and protect those entitlements that were guaranteed by the People’s Action Movement, (PAM), and our nation’s founding fathers, led by our First Prime Minister, Dr. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds.
When Sir Kennedy, along with the first Premier of Nevis, , took that bold step in 1980, to put partisan politics aside, and forge an alliance to usher in a new government, it was one of the most dramatic displays of unity and patriotism.
PAM therefore, since the birth of this great nation, has always demonstrated its capacity to construct governments of national unity. May I remind you, my fellow citizens that were it not for that first government of national unity in 1980, this country as we know it today, St. Kitts & Nevis, would have never been possible.
Later this year in September we will celebrate 30 years of independence, which is clear testimony that PAM has foresight and political wisdom to create long-lasting relationships and national structures.
Unfortunately there is now a new conspiracy to deny our people, every Kittitian and Nevisian, their Fundamental Rights to Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Association, Freedom of Conscience and Freedom of Assembly.
Sadly it is not our old adversaries and colonial oppressors who are attempting to ignore our constitution and stand in the way of democracy and constitutional rule, no. it is our own people who currently illegally occupy the seat of government. It is the Labour Party Government of the illegitimate office holder, , the world’s most notorious dictator. He is the so called 10 man in one who wishes to trample upon our rights. But the Attorney General ought to tell Dr. Douglas that Chapter 1 of our constitution states that the “Constitution is the Supreme Law“.
What that means is that no one, no matter who they might be, can pass any law that is in contravention of the constitution. Not the Governor General, not the Prime Minister, not the National Assembly, not the police.absolutely No One, can pass any law, any regulation or any rule, that is in breach of any right that has been granted by the constitution.
Chapter 2 of the constitution contains the sections that guarantee the Protection of our Fundamental Rights & Freedoms.
And the very first right that is listed, in Section 3 states, in part,
“.every person in Saint Christopher and Nevis is entitled to the fundamental rights and freedoms, that is to say, the right, whatever his race, place of origin, birth, political opinions, colour, creed or sex.And those rights are;–
(b) freedom of conscience, of expression and of assembly and association;Meanwhile, section 12, (1) which deals with the Protection of freedom of expression, states, Except with his own consent, a person shall not be hindered in the enjoyment of his freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions without interference, freedom to receive ideas and information without interference, freedom to communicate ideas and information without interference (whether the communication is to the public generally or to any person or class of persons) and freedom from interference with his correspondence.
That section “freedom from interference with his correspondence” MUST be carefully looked at, because it means that no one should stand in your way to deny you the right of expression.
Section 12, (2) continues by stating
“Nothing contained in, or done under the authority of any law shall be held to be inconsistent with, or in contravention of this section.”
And finally, Section 14, Protection of freedom of movement, states,
14. – (1) a person shall not be deprived of his freedom of movement, that is to say, the right to move freely throughout Saint Christopher and Nevis.

History, especially recent history, teaches us that a man can be a dictator for only so long as the people allow him.
Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, your time as a dictator is up. The music has stopped and you have been left on the dance floor without a chair.
The bell is tolling and the eyes of the people are being opened. The people have arrived at that point where they intend to use all constitutional and legal means to rid this paradise, of this economic and moral parasite, called Denzil Douglas.
Therefore, the time has come for the democratic and constitutional weapons of this country to be formed against this despotic tyrant who continues to misuse our money in one failed venture after another.be it Kittitian Heights that is now Kittitian Hill, White Gate, Beacon Heights, Christophe Harbour and the list goes on.
Now that he realizes that his time is at an end, he wishes to ‘tief’ the upcoming elections. He wishes to change up the boundaries. His regime has been illegally registering and transferring voters across the constituencies. He has been manipulating the Electoral Office and the electoral system.
He is still not satisfied, so he is now planning to use the security forces against the unarmed and peaceful citizens of this country.
And we of the People’s Action Movement note the threats to lock up and jail our citizens because they seek to exercise their democratic and constitutional rights.
But we urge the leadership of the police force and defense force, not to allow themselves to be dragged into an obvious campaign to take our country further down the path of dictatorship.
We remind you that your job is to protect the rights of the people, not to suffocate them.
Fellow citizens, we have come across evidence which confirms that the police leadership is colluding with the politicians.
The following correspondence has been brought to our attention.please listen carefully to the contents of these emails between the Commissioner of Police and his most senior ranks:
No march permit was granted. Persons are not to be permitted to congregate on Church Street. Do we have plans in place to counter these INSURGENTS? Has anyone contacted Cpl. . regarding the less lethals? Have we been training with the less lethals? What is the plan that is in place? I am not hearing from anyone except.
Where is the rest of the operational arm of law enforcement?
DCP Liburd what plans are in place for mass arrest? Inspector David please refer to ACP Queeley all press questions until I return to Federation.
“Effective leadership is not about making speeches and being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” (Peter Drucker).
Here is the response to the commissioner from one of the senior ranks:
Myself and the DCP discussed the issue this morning and I have certain directions from him. I spoke with .. Last week regarding availability of IS gears and equipment and he informed me that they are available and the SSU has been training regularly.
A meeting with all department head is scheduled for 2pm tomorrow with the DCP to discuss this development.
Fellow citizens those are the emails between the commissioner and his most senior officers. Now you see the conspiracy that is taking place between the police and the politicians.
We are also reliably informed that the commissioner was very angry with his senior ranks and told them that he is NOT a citizen of St. Kitts and he does not care what happens here so it is their (senior ranks) decision.
He was angry at them because they told him that they do not agree with his course of action and that he should reconsider his decision but he told them that the decision was out of his hands because he had referred the matter to Astonia Browne and Jason Hamilton.

But we hold no fear in the desperate actions of any dictator, nor are we afraid of any “police state” because as so many other dictators and tyrants have seen, the world is watching and the international court of justice is waiting. If you want to beat us down, go ahead.
If it is your plan to throw us in jail, we done change our clothes and waiting.
If it is your plan to shoot us down, go ahead.
It is time you realize, we are not afraid! We are willing to sacrifice for our nation.
I remind you and you of the many dictators like you who once thought they too were big and bad, until the international court of justice caught up with them for genocide and crimes against humanity.
Your day of judgment is coming!
The members of our police force are our fellow citizens. They too have brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, girlfriends and boyfriends in the society at large.
Are these police men and women willing to shoot down their own families? Will they allow themselves to be duped into doing the “dirty work” of an expired Prime Minister? I do not think so.
It is now clear to us that this minority government is determined to ignore the law and the constitution and is willing to do anything to delay their fate with destiny.a destiny on a short road out of government.
PAM has been very patient. We, along with our “family” in other parties have been respectful of the law and have exercised the greatest levels of patience.
We have never resorted to violence and disorder. And we now have no such intentions.all we want is to be left in peace to exercise our constitutional rights.
We have taken the legal means and have gone to court for restitution on all matters including the demand to have the Motion of No Confidence. We have also gone to court to prevent the dictator from increasing the number of senators.
In 2009 we also went to the court to prevent the illegal changes to the electoral boundaries and we may have to head there again.
And every time we head to the courts for justice, Douglas and his yes men criticize us. So if they criticize us for turning to the court for justice, where else do they think we should turn?
The two elected members of PAM and partners in the CCM and PLP have also written twice to the Governor General, confirming that all Six of us, who make up the majority of the elected members of parliament, no longer have any confidence in the government and Dr. Douglas as Prime Minister. We have stated to the Governor General twice in letter that when the Motion of No Confidence is called, we will all vote in favour of it.
We have also written twice to the Speaker of the National Assembly, echoing the same message that we communicated to the Governor General, and after six months, not one of these gentlemen has taken the appropriate constitutional action.
They continue to ignore the will of the people. This Saturday, 29th June, 2013, will make 200 Days, since we filed our motion on December 11th, 2012 and still no action from Sir Edmund or Speaker Martin.
Brothers and sisters, fellow citizens, family, it is very clear that if they continue not to act, then one day, when history is written, it would be understood if they are recorded as being on the wrong side of the people.
We urge both Sir Edmund Lawrence our Governor General and Speaker Hon. Curtis Martin, to step forward on the side of the people and be recognized as men of conscience with the will to uphold the principles of the constitution and democracy.
We have been patient. We have been law abiding. We have taken all the insults as we witness our constitutional rights being trampled upon.
We have reached out overseas to other leaders of CARICOM, the Commonwealth, the OECS, and friendly governments with embassies here and overseas.
The Chamber of Industry of Commerce has written, so too has the Christian Council. The Evangelical Association, the St. Kitts and Nevis Bar Association and the Hotel & Tourism Association, have also written, urging both the Speaker and Prime Minister to bring the Motion.but they continue to ignore the wishes of civil society.
Though we have suffered for so long, we continue to be law abiding.
We have exercised more patience than Job and we have tried every means to appeal to the decency of those who have admitted to “overthrowing” the former PAM government in 1995.
PAM has listened to the confessions of Dr. Douglas that he has incited the people, as he claimed he did in 1993.
We have heard him state that if the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, Lindsay Grant and PAM are elected to office, “there will be a revolution” in this country.
We have listened, but we have heard no response on the part of the police to caution or arrest the prime minister for those remarks that are now evidence, through his own testimony, that he has overthrown a lawfully elected government and he intends to cause a revolution if PAM wins the government in an election.
What we have heard instead from the police, is a threat to arrest ordinary law abiding citizens who are only seeking to protect their Fundamental Rights as guaranteed in the constitution.
But I have a message for the government and all who wish to intimidate the people.
As the calypsonian Short Shirt, once sang, “Our country must be, not just a society, but a just society, let this be our pledge.”
He went on to say in that famous masterpiece, “Please beware my countrymen, of the trappings of false liberty, for true liberation does not only lie in constitutionality, because we would have gained nothing if all we do is pass, from bondage to...
Someone ought to tell that imposter of a prime minister, that we did not fight for independence from the white colonialists, only to be enslaved again by a black dictator, who cannot recognize that his time is over and the people do not want him anymore.
As the calypsonian said, ever vigilant we must be to curb injustice, because the rights of everyone must be recognized, so that none will feel they are ostracized.
Someone needs to tell that “tweeny” little fella, that we are not alone and no army or police force formed against the people can defeat us whenever we choose to defend our democracy within the law.
Please tell that 10 man of 76 million dollars Lex Consulting fame, that his weapons of destruction cannot overcome the will of the people. Tell him that we have forged a strong family relationship across party lines, and the family will stand together and shall never be defeated by his illegal acts of intimidation.
Let the message of PAM be clear, we and our family in unity will triumph over his evil doings.
And as I close, I am reminded of the words of our famous son of the soil, King Arrow, “Would you stand up and see your country dying and never lend a helping hand?” Or would you unite?
So citizens, let’s unite and stand up for our rights, all our lives, analyze, let us reintegrate, and correct our mistakes, re-unification building a brand new nation, we’ll move on together hand in hand, so arise, citizens arise, the country is yours, all yours, still yours.”
As Douglas tries to divide our people, it is CCM, PAM and PLP that are trying to unite us all.
That is why the whole country is so determined that the time has come to put party politics aside.
No matter that we may have started as different colours; the time has now come for us to be ONE PEOPLE.
In our National Flag there are two white stars that represent HOPE and Liberty.
On Wednesday, 26th June, let us restore hope and liberty by wearing white as our show of support for democracy. We ask all citizens of goodwill to demonstrate their patriotism and love for country by wearing white. Wear white for democracy.
The time has come for UNITY!
And PAM is “Moving Forward in Unity!“
