DIGICEL GROUP WINS BIG AT THE GLOBAL TELECOMS BUSINESS INNOVATION AWARDS 2013

Digicel won big at the Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards 2013 taking home two of its most prestigious awards.

Digicel Tonga came up trumps in the “Best Consumer Innovation” category for its ‘Beep & Go‘ mobile payments product while Chairman and founder of Digicel, Denis O’Brien, took home the big prize of the night as the proud recipient of the “Outstanding Achievement Award“.

Digicel Tonga’s ‘Beep & Go‘ is the world’s first fully inclusive payment solution linking a near field communication (NFC) point of sale terminal to a mobile money wallet. Since launching, ‘Beep & Go‘ has driven a 30% increase in unique users of Digicel’s Mobile Money services.

The merchant network of ‘Beep & Go’ merchants has grown to cover 80% of principal retailers in Tonga. The service offers customer and transaction visibility to merchants and many have started targeting customers with marketing and rewarding loyalty with promotions. It has transformed the retail sector and payment experience in Tonga.

As such, I would like to congratulate my colleagues in the Pacific for bringing that to life for our customers through the 'Beep & Go' product which won in the 'Best Consumer Innovation' category. To be recognised on the global stage at being the best at what we do is no small achievement and we are grateful for that honour. I would also like to thank the team at Global Telecoms Business for my own award. I am deeply grateful and accept this on behalf of my colleagues all across the globe."
