Digicel Barbados has massive send off for Top Performer: Barry O’Brien to head Digicel Jamaica
Like an Irish wedding or funeral it was a grand affair where many a drink was downed in sorrow and in joy, the occasion unfolded at Limegrove’s rooftop penthouse when Barry O’Brien made his official goodbyes to the Barbados posse in Holetown, St James recently.
The catering was from Corbin’s who had tasty shrimp dredged in coconut shreddings, samosas, spring rolls and other tasties throughout the night.
Peter Gilkes, Noel Lynch, Ralph “Bruggadung” Johnson, Darcy Boyce were some of the local Digi-users present at the do, while David Campion, ex-Harlequin Resorts and Robbie Burns, ex-Redjet were some of the countrymen who stopped by to wish Barry well on his new venture which is essentially heading Digicel’s flagship operation.
Staff like Jaggs Dass of the Business Division, Andrea Worrell of Customer Care and Commercial Director Alex Tasker were present for the fun which included a 3-man deejay team banging CD’s the whole night.
Tributes for Barry both on and off the job were given with much humor and love by key Shareholder Ralph “Bizzy” Williams and Financial Controller Ciaran Burke, they were received with copious bursts of laughter from a packed rooftop of well-wishers.
Ralph spoke of the dangers of going to Ireland if Digicel has a huge dividend. while Ciaran recalled the many times roast beef was had between himself & Barry at the Yacht Club; or when Barry got locked out of his home by accident as his wife Ruth was also not in the island; and how Barry got Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean added to his portfolio while running Barbados.
The reason for the night, Barry O’Brien, showed great humility in appreciating all the support he had while serving Barbados, and he enjoyed here so much – he hinted that once he retires he plans to return to Barbados… Maybe to run a little venture of his own? But he’s not planning to be a stranger to the country which made his niche in a growing telecoms sector!
