Beacon Insurance sponsors another Festival of Speed at BUSHY PARK RACING CIRCUIT
All roads will lead to the Bushy Park raceway in St. Philip on Sunday June 30 for the Beacon Insurance- sponsored race meeting of the Barbados Auto Racing League.
This Sunday’s event will be the final racing event to be held at the 1/8 of a mile circuit in its present configuration. An exciting card is being planned for the many patrons who are expected to turn out in their numbers to enjoy the action in this final showdown.
With two rounds of competition already completed for the year, Sunday’s third and final round will see the crowning of a new champion driver for 2013.
The day’s event will also mark the first time in the history of the club that the two brothers will be in such a close contest to determine who will wear the coveted title of champion driver. As a result fans can expect fierce competition from these two who will try to outdo each other from the opening bell of the contest.
Kurt will take to the start line in his BARL Group 3 Glassesco Hardware, Bio Beauty Day Spa, NKM Clothing Monster Energy Drink & Beacon Insurance Honda Civic on 136 points to his credit; while Mark better known as “Ointment”, will be behind the wheel in his well-prepared Monster Energy Group 2C Stag Beer Glassesco Hardware, NKM Clothing Day Spa and Local Speed Toyota Starlet with 133 points.
Fresh from their impressive performances in the first leg of the annual Caribbean Motor Racing Championships in Jamaica earlier this month, both will be looking to continue from where they left off when they had the Jamaican spectators at the edge of their seats and the commentators searching for words to describe their breath-taking performances.
Also in with a very good chance of snatching the overall title from the Thompson’s, is William Jones, in the ICB Group 2A H&B Hardware Nissan 120 Y. Jones is some 29 points adrift of Mark Thompson with114 points and could still challenge for the title should either of the brothers fail to gain any additional points.
Right on his heels is Harry Thomas, in a Honda Civic with exactly 100 points, followed closely by his BARL 2B competitor Peter Small, at the helm of the Bajan Motors Honda Civic on 96.5 points. Also in contention is Samuel Mayers in his Gales Hatcheries & Red Line Fuels.com, KDJ Auto Parts, Champion Spark Plugs, and Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre & Turbo Batteries Nissan with 96 points.
Fans can also look for a straight fight between two former BARL champions Kenrick “Snappa” Husbands in the Williams Equipment Hilti Toyota Starlet and Jason Harewood in his Do-It-Best, Gaskin’s Garage, SDRR (Areoquip), Marks Auto Spares, Castrol & JVM Signage Toyota Starlet. Both competitors scored 117 points and will no doubt be slugging it out to the wire.
Jerry Leach, in his speedy SDRR & Hydraulics Honda Civic is also expected to make winning difficult for Kurt in the BARL Group 3 class and could be a contender for the overall championship title. However, it is highly unlikely that the present leaders will fail to add to their tally.
