Digicel Barbados CEO, Barry O’Brien, has been appointed to the role of CEO for Digicel Jamaica, an announcement that was made today.

Mr. O’Brien has been at the helm of Digicel Barbados for the last four years. In this time, he has driven the success of the team taking Digicel Barbados from a pure mobile provider to a full service business solutions provider proudly serving some of Barbados and the region’s largest companies offering services like 4G and WiMAX. In that role, O’Brien also had oversight for Digicel Dominica and business solutions across the Eastern Caribbean South as well as being CEO of Digicel across the OECS for a period.

In his new role, O’Brien will report to Andy Thorburn, newly appointed CEO for the Caribbean and Central America. Barry will also have oversight of Digicel Cayman.

A telecoms industry veteran with 20 years experience, O’Brien, prior to joining Digicel, worked all over the world with companies like Motorola, HP, Vodafone and Ericsson. He graduated from University College Cork in Ireland with a First Class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Business Management from the National College of Ireland.

Speaking about his time in Barbados, incoming CEO for Digicel Jamaica, Barry O’Brien, said; “It’s been a great four years in Barbados. In that time, the business has gone from strength to strength and we have achieved a number of significant milestones including the launches of 4G, WiMAX and GPS vehicle tracking and our transition to a full service business solutions provider for some of the largest names in the Caribbean. While I am of course looking forward to my new challenge as CEO of Digicel Jamaica, a piece of me will always remain in Barbados and I hope to maintain my strong links to the island and its people who made me so welcome when I arrived and over the years.”

Digicel Group CEO, Colm Delves, commented; “I would like to congratulate Barry on his move. He has done a great job both in Barbados and in his wider Dominica and regional business solutions role where he has been instrumental in building and cementing Digicel’s position as a full service telecommunications provider. I would like to thank him for his service to date and to wish him all the best for his new role in Jamaica which I know he will make a great success of.”
