News Conference to Discuss Barbados’ Economic Performance for the First Quarter of 2013

Reaction in Social Media to the recent Press Conference has been volatile…

FACEBOOK COMMENTARY - "All Barbadians should be grateful the country's dire economic straits outlined in the Central Bank's 1st Quarter report showed such a dramatic improvement by the time the Governor, Dr.Worrell held his press conference, just 24 hrs after. Dr Worrell says we have to compare our reality to what we see on TV and to countries like Cyprus. I have taken your advice Gov., and I feel so much better. Why should we hold our Gov't economic policies up to scrutiny or aspire to the same economic growth as Singapore or Iceland when we can wallow in the economic quagmire with countries like Cyprus and Greece! Thank you for the reality check Gov., leaders like Errol Barrow and Tom Adams were all wrong to reach for the stars, we are now truly where we belong."

“Why does the Governor of the Central Bank not face a panel of questions from accountants, lawyers and economists rather than the press who don’t seem to understand first quarter report on the economy?” REPLY? “I remember a meeting in 91/92 at Dover Convention Center that was Chaired by Sen. D’arcy Boyce; It was packed by every leading business person, large and small, and they called on the meeting to affirm that L E Sandiford resign. The same needs to happen now. If these guys worked for a private sector company, their bags would have been packed for them.”
