Medgar Evers College Student Government Association (SGA) in strong, capable hands with proper leadership by Rawle Nelson
Vice President of the Medgar Evers College Student Government Association (SGA) Mark Richardson is of the firm opinion that the current breed of SGA leaders has aided in placing the group in a better and stronger position thus being able to adequately and effectively represent students at the institution.
Richardson expressed this view among other things during an exclusive interview with this journalist. he pointed out that while his first taste of serving on the school’s SGA came about last year he said that it was has been punctuated by energetic, caring, responsible, aggressive, thought-provoking individuals who he said has a passionate interest in bringing about holistic development within the college.
“While we recognise that we have had some serious and critically important issues to address we are also aware and cognizant of the fact that we were blessed with some individuals who wanted to see continued growth and development within the school as they pursue their associate or full degrees and therefore the current breed of SGA speaks well for the future of Medgar Evers College,” Richardson said.
The Guyanese teacher who migrated to pursue his academic pursuits in the area of Computer Science stressed since the election of Jeff Paul in 2012 as president; a number of new and innovative changes have occurred thus helping to bring about a much brighter image to the school.
He declared that the SGA has a number of persons who he said are enlightened to the many difficulties and challenges that students are facing today in pursuit of a college education. He however noted that they remain extremely enthusiastic and excited to effect meaningful changes that will not only benefit current students but those that intends to join the institution in the near and distance future.
The high performing Computer Science major noted that due to the many challenges and difficulties that the school was faced with it required significant and dedicated work from the SGA members in bringing about stability, accountability and respect to the college which he pointed out has seen its image and credibility being severely tested over the past few years.
Richardson who has been one of the front runners in bringing about major changes to the operation of SGA and their visibility on campus spoke about his some of his own trials and tribulations while helping to enhance and foster the image of SGA with the view of properly educating and sensitizing students about the opportunities that they are blessed with through studying at Medgar Evers College. He said the most turbulent and challenging times was during preparation for exams which demanded that he set out a well though out schedule which will ensure that he studied well so as to prepare for his exams while ensuring that he continued with his responsibility of executing Student Government responsibilities and serving the people who elected him, the students.
Richardson stressed that he will continue to serve in the plat firm of “Putting the students first and providing them with relief effective and efficient student representation thus ensuring that issues and concerns are addressed properly” will ci9ntinue to remain constant throughout his tenure while serving on SGA. he declared that before being elected this was his core principles and it will continue to be thus resulting in his continued leadership.
The SGA number two leader said that unity and commitment was paramount for the success of any person seeking public office especially as it relates to the students at MEC.
