WEIGHTY CHARGES OR TOUGH ACT TO SWALLOW – JAMAICAN FOUND WITH PACKETS & CANNABIS PLANTS SEIZED

Alvin Orlandzo Calbert, a 42 year old Jamaican national was arrested and charged on the March, 15, 2013 for the following offences which were committed at the G.A.I.A.:

a. Possession a controlled drug to wit cannabis (3 ½ lbs);

b. Possession with intent to supply;

c. Trafficking; and

d. Importation.

(REPRESENTATIONAL FILE IMAGE) Calbert arrived on the island from Jamaica on March 11, 2013. He was interviewed by members of the Drug Squad. He was referred to the QEH where he subsequently passes out 69 packages of the drug which he had digested. Weight 3 ½ lbs>.

On the March 15, 2013, he appeared at the District B Magistrate Court where he pleaded guilty to all the charges. He was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment to three of the charges; he was Convicted, Reprimanded and Discharged (CRD) for the offence of Possession.

CANNABIS PLANTS SEIZED

Members of the Drug Squad continue the eradication exercise throughout the island. Thirty-one (31) cannabis plants were found in a bushy area at Sargeant Street, St. John, on Friday March 15, 2013.
