U.S. Embassy facilitates the Detroit-Barbados Jazz Connection

Internationally acclaimed trumpet star, Marcus Belgrave has brought his Jazz Development Workshop to Barbados. In a series of workshops with students from the Barbados Community College (BCC) music program, Mr. Belgrave and his team are working to develop jazz talent in Barbados.

On Tuesday, April 2 at 10:30 am, Marcus Belgrave has invited music students from 22 secondary schools across the island to a concert and Q&A session hosted by members of the Jazz Development Workshop.

(CLICK FOR BIGGER) Marcus Belgrave’s work with the students of BCC culminates in a jazz performance gala at the Errol Barrow Center for Creative Imagination in a second event on Friday, April 5 at 7:00 pm.  This performance will feature Mr. Belgrave, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Joan Belgrave, jazz pianist Ian Finkelstein and tenor saxophonist Marcus Elliot. These accomplished American jazz artists will be performing together with BCC workshop participants. Both events are free and open to the public.

Marcus Belgrave is an accomplished jazz trumpet player based in Detroit, Michigan. He has recorded with a variety of well-known musicians, bandleaders and record labels since the 1950’s including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr.
