Because the team is in a difficult financial situation, Beane realizes he needs to radically change how he evaluates candidates for the team. After meeting Peter Brand (Jonah Hill), an executive assistant from another team with a degree in economics, Beane realizes he has found the man who knows how to subvert the system of assessing players that has been in force for nearly a century. However, when the duo begins recruiting players that seem too old, injured, or inept to play in the Big Leagues, they face stiff resistance from both veteran recruiters and team manager Art Howe (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who refuses to allow non-traditional ways of recruiting players. Directed by: Bennett Miller.
