{UPDATED} West Coast Drilling: Barbadian Facebook Users alarmed at Oil Rig… Just Passing By!

This was posted on Facebook not too long ago, some claim it is on its way to¬†Brazil¬† while others asked if Barbados is getting paid to allow it to pass through our territorial waters especially as it is so close to the West Coast. The quote below is the person who took the initial image…

“Ok, because I’m not quite clear on what’s going on here, can someone please explain to me if this is an oil platform?…and if so, why is it so close to the west coast of Barbados? Look, I’m not sure if drilling for oil this close is such a ‘good‘ idea… ’cause if anything goes wrong we can most certainly kiss our beautiful beaches, the marine life & Tourism good bye.

Considering the tragedy off Mexico and BP and how it reached Louisiana which is still reeling from Hurricane Katrina, the above fears do not seem so scatterbrained…

HOWEVER – New data to hand?

“It is a drilling platform, on its way to Brazil, the journey will take 2 months as it is being pulled by two tug boats, it is here for 2 weeks to change crew and to get supplies, then it will move on. That is from what I heard in a broadcast this morning. It is beautiful at night all lit up in the sea.”

  1. The rig keeps getting moved to different spots along the coast every day. North and South and closer and farther in. It has been a week. They must be doing testing of some sort or it would be gone by now. I think we need more real reporting on this.
