Over 175,000 vehicle owners did not renew their stickers in the three-month period granted by the Dominican Republic’s Department of Taxes (DGII), so an initial 200 cars were confiscated over the weekend of 1 and 2 December for using the roads without paying the circulation tax, and they will now have to pay the RD$1,000 fine imposed by AMET, plus a RD$600 late fee, as well as the cost of the sticker.

The DGII opened the renewal process of the Tax on Motor Vehicle Circulation on 28 August, providing taxpayers with 332 points all over the country as well as an online renewal facility with 24/7 with home delivery. As of today, Monday 3 December, vehicle owners who failed to renew on time will be able to obtain their stickers at the local DGII offices, but they will be charged an additional RD$600 late fee.
