During Christmas much attention is paid to providing toys to our nation’s children, particularly those who are disadvantaged, however, this year Digicel endeavoured to fulfill a greater need by giving the children of the Nightengale Children’s Home the gift of knowledge.

On Christmas Eve, a team of persons from the telecommunications company visited the Black Rock, St. Michael institution to deliver educational games, books and stationery items to the almost 40 children who reside there.

Marketing Executive with Digicel (Barbados) Limited, Shakida Grant, indicated that the decision to provide these types of gifts to the children was based on Digicel’s commitment to facilitating the all-round development of the nation’s youth, in conjunction with the company’s recognition of a void described by officials at the home itself: “When we approached the Nightengale home we did so with a view to meeting real needs that existed there. One such need expressed by them was that related to the shortage of educational material to help in the children’s development outside of their regular school hours. Given our ongoing desire to make meaningful contributions to the growth and development of the youth, which is manifested in a number of programmes we support, we jumped at this opportunity and are keen on developing a greater relationship with the home in the future.”

"Ready to Learn! Residents" of the Nightengale Children’s home were ecstatic about receiving their educational gifts, books and stationery from Digicel.
