“Let he who Privatises, cast the first IPO…” Barbados Labour Party’s 74th Annual Gen. Conf. – Owen Arthur, Pt 3

Recently the Barbados Advocate has carried some full colour print Ads implying if key Public Sector Agencies were sold to the Private Sector, then jobs would be lost and the blame will fall at Owen Arthur‘s feet…

The full slate of BLP Candidates for when Elections will finally be held – just when is that? Perhaps like the USA, Barbados should set aside a regularised date and period… Then neither side can call for voting too early or too late!

Perhaps the advertisers have forgotten that Sir Lloyd Sandiford as PM sold Heywoods Resort to become Almond Beach Resort, this was done with much chagrin to Barbadians in the early 90’s, yet it proceeded without even so much as a referendum?

Is the fear that Public Sector jobs are lost in a privatisation move, or that staff would finally be expected to WORK?? 😉

His address was delivered to a crowded and sweltering Queen’s Park Steel Shed very recently, as the BLP’s website explains…

Queen’s Park has added and wider significance to the public, located as it is almost within shouting distance of Parliament Buildings, the major symbol of the political power exercised by those democratically chosen by the ballot to represent the interests of all Barbadians, a process that began in earnest in with the winning of Universal Adult Suffrage in 1951, as a result of the relentless assault on the undemocratic status quo led by Grantley Adams.”
