Harlequin supports St. Phillip Youth football for 2nd Year
Harlequin Hotels & Resorts and Harlequin Developments, in association with Liverpool Football Club International Football Academy Soccer School at Buccament Bay Resort, are delighted to announce the return of their one day soccer clinics in Barbados. All involved are excited to be working again with the St Philip South Foundation for Education (SPSFE) to develop youth football in the Parish for the second consecutive year.
Mr Carl Mapp, President of SPSFE and coordinator of the event, thanked Harlequin Hotels & Resorts for their continued support: “We are grateful to the Harlequin team for partnering with us again as we work on the development of local football.”
He added, “Our goal is to take the work being done and host a St Phillip Primary School knock-out competition within the year.”
Garrett Ronan, Vice-President of Hotel and Resort Development for Harlequin Hotels & Resorts, confirmed that Harlequin Hotels & Resorts has arranged for its two Liverpool Football Club Academy selected and trained coaches to travel from Buccament Bay Resort to coach at the camp.
He said, “Coaches Roger Gurley of St Vincent & Grenadines and Ralph Stowe of Bequia will be encouraging the players to learn to play the ‘Liverpool way’ at their own pace by focusing on a mix of hard work with a good dose of fun.”
The one day camps, which have the full support of the Barbados Football Association and the Barbados Ministry of Sport Culture and Youth Affairs, will also share soccer skills and techniques through exercises and games specifically designed by Liverpool FC to inspire and excite the youthful audience.
Mr Ronan added, “This programme is a pre-curser for our planned Liverpool FC International Football Academy Soccer School at The Merricks Resort in St Phillip, Barbados. The programme in St Vincent has delivered great results with the South Leeward Inter Primary School Under-13 Football Tournament, which encourages both male and female participation. 16–18 players are selected at the end of the tournament to attend the Soccer School in Buccament Bay Resort over six weeks during the summer, where the training programme includes sessions with Liverpool FC legends like David Fairclough.”
