Environmental Associations in La Romana-Bayahibe and Samana all agree that there is a need to provide incentives for the capture and consumption of the lionfish that has invaded the waters around the Dominican Republic.

{IMAGE VIAadventureantigua.com} The Pacific fish, also an issue in Antigua, which has no natural predators, is a voracious eater of C’bean fish and represents a real danger to swimmers as well.

Groups including Reef Check, the Nature Conservancy, and the Center for the Conservation of Samana Bay have joined together to talk to fishermen and encourage them to catch this fish.

Hotels are also being urged, according to El Caribe, to add lionfish dishes to their menus.
