The Central Bank of Barbados has released an updated version of its online statistics

The Bank explained that this latest version offers enhanced functionality, easier use of the system, more visible documentation as well as a new avenue for sharing statistics coming out of its research initiatives.

The upgrade to the statistical database is based primarily on feedback from users of the data. An updated and improved user interface, research initiatives and working tables, video tutorials, latest updates and current status of tables, as well as a new search functionality have all been added.

The online database was first launched in 2010, and is available in downloadable format so that persons can more conveniently download it – primarily in Excel. By issuing these statistics on-line, the information is accessible 24/7 and made more widely available.

The statistics cover more than 600 variables, pertaining to the monetary authorities, commercial banks, non-bank financial institutions, interest rates, securities, public finance, foreign trade and general statistics. Persons downloading the data can choose variables by selecting the period of interest and/or the preferred frequency, i.e. weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually.

The Bank has provided statistics to Government and the public since its establishment in 1972. The Research and Economic Analysis Department collects, compiles and processes this statistical data from original and secondary sources such as commercial banks, trust companies, the Government Statistical Service, Central Government and statutory bodies, as well as from the Bank’s own departments.
