Many Bajans just toss them aside… A penny, a cent, one one-hundredth of a Dollar! A dollar itself is part of a million dollars…

{L to R} Sonya Alleyne from Rotary West; Pamelia Brereton of the Alzheimer’s Association; Cleviston Haynes – Dep. Gov. of the CBB and Olivia Gibson – CBB’s Dep. Dir. of the currency Dept. There will be a National date for collecting pennies on the 21st at Independence Square, watch the video for full details!

The Central Bank of Barbados (CBB) is on a quest for millions itself, millions of pennies by the end of 2012, not from Heaven – from YOU! Start making sense by giving pennies where it helps! The Central Bank is helping to give back where it’s needed – a Day Care facility for Alzheimer’s Patients, with help from the Alzheimer’s Association and Rotary West of Barbados!

Five million cents or fifty-thousand dollars is being collected across the island at various venuesSOL Redman’s and SOL Wildey; The Barbados Chamber of Commerce; Carlton Supermarket & Emerald City; the Barbados Small Business Association; COT Media Group; the Cave Hill Campus of UWI; Lex Caribbean in Worthing and many more!

The CBB, Alzheimer’s Association and all Rotary clubs have launched a nationwide programme to recover 5 million cents to assist with the construction of a day care centre for sufferers of Alzheimer’s.

To this end, collection bins have been located in various venues across the island, and they’re encouraging Barbadians to drop in their cents as donations to the cause. Remember, you can help make sense of cents!
