Barbados Geriatric Hospital almost at capacity – needs Wheelchairs & Bath Chairs like Yesterday

Not far from Bay Street, the Geriatric Hospital on Beckles Road just received a group of American Airline employees (current and retired) who brought to the staff of the over-100 year old building some vital donations to brighten their patients’ day.

Senior Staff Head Nurse Ancil Roach met the group and spoke of other Patients’ needs during a brief tour of the facility, as outlined in the video below…

The Beckles Road facility can hold 358 patients and is feeling its capacity with 261 souls in the building, which apparently is not under the care of the Barbados National Trust, these kind people in from the USA donated toiletries and medical monitors from their own pocket, apart from other essential supplies which were distributed to the hospital.

The AA contingent consists of Bajans away from Bim a good while and those who have never been to the Caribbean, all made sure to explore or refamiliarise themselves with the beautiful island of Barbados.

The AA folks taking a well-deserved rest by the shade of the Beckles Road’s tree near the Main Entrance; here’s hoping B’dos National Trust will do its part to preserve this building which was the Almshouse generations ago…

Working with the Barbados Tourism Authority, the group was able to obtain discounts at the host hotel, Divi Southwinds, as well as sightseeing venues like George Washington House, an Island Safari tour, lunch at the Waterfront Café and dinner at Pisces restaurant. Ground transportation is provide by Eslyn Johnson and William Wells. The group made a trip to Oistins via the Transport Board to enjoy traditionally cooked fresh fish.
