RUGBY BARBADOS SEVENS TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR RWC7 QUALIFIER

Barbados Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce the selection of its Sevens Team for the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup Qualifier in Ottawa. The selection process has involved a strenuous training regime over the past three months with tournaments and training days in England and Barbados.

{FILE IMAGE – NOV. 2011} George Nicholson (RIGHT – Blue & White top), President of the BRFU, commented, “With Rugby Sevens set to make its Olympic debut in Rio in 2016, we took the decision to embark upon a long-term Rugby Sevens programme with an objective of qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games. We have received tremendous support for this project from the Barbados Olympic Association, The Arts and Sports Promotion Fund of the Ministry of Finance, the Barbados Tourism Authority, Apes Hill Club and Virgin Atlantic, whose contributions have facilitated training camps in Barbados, the UK and Canada, in addition to financing our attendance at the 2013 Rugby Sevens World Cup Qualifier.”

Joe Whipple, Head Coach, commented, “the players should be proud of the work they have done to prepare for this tournament. We have seen individuals grow as players and as people. We need to grow as a team. It’s now time to do our talking on the field.”
