HBO PREMIERES “HEMINGWAY & GELLHORN;” Nominated for 15 Emmy® Awards, HBO film with Nicole Kidman & Clive Owen debuts Aug. 18th in Caribbean

HBO Latin America announced the August 18th premiere of the HBO original drama film Hemingway & Gellhorn in the Caribbean. Starring a critically acclaimed duo and directed by Academy Award® nominee Philip Kaufman, Hemingway & Gellhorn has earned 15 Emmy® nominations, including Best Actor and Best Actress for leads, as well as Best Director. The film’s story tells of the passionate love affair and tumultuous marriage between trailblazing war correspondent Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman) and literary giant Ernest Hemingway (Clive Owen), following the adventurous writers through all the great conflicts of their time – from the Spanish Civil War and beyond.

The film follows the relationship from the moment they met in Key West in 1936 (when Hemingway was married to second wife Pauline), to their shared experiences during the volatile Spanish Civil War, to more strained times when, as husband and wife, they traveled to China (together) and WWII (independently).

{IMAGE VIA –} Considered by many to be the greatest of all war correspondents – man or woman – Gellhorn’s drive and success catapulted her beyond the confines of her marriage into a revered and respected career independent of Hemingway’s. The combined magnetism of Hemingway and Gellhorn ushered them into social circles that included the elite of Hollywood, the aristocracy of theliterary world and the First Family of the United States. As witnesses to history, they covered all the great conflicts of their time, but the war they couldn’t survive was the war between themselves.

The cast of Hemingway & Gellhorn includes Nicole Kidman as Martha Gellhorn, who won an Oscar® for “The Hours” and Golden Globes for “The Hours,” “Moulin Rouge!” and “To Die For.” Also starring in the film is Clive Owen as Ernest Hemingway, who was an Oscar® nominee and Golden Globewinner for “Closer.” Other cast members include: David Strathairn (“Goodnight, and Good Luck,” HBO’s “Temple Grandin”), Rodrigo Santoro (“I Love You Philip Morris,” “300”), SAG Award nominee Molly Parker (“The Road,” HBO’s “Deadwood”), Golden Globe nominee Parker Posey (“Superman Returns,” “A Mighty Wind”), Santiago Cabrera (“Che: Part 1”), actor-musician Lars Ulrich (“Get Him to the Greek,” founding member of Metallica), Saverio Guerra (“Lucky You”), Emmy® nominee Peter Coyote (“Erin Brockovich,” “Law & Order: LA”), Joan Chen (“The Last Emperor”) and Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Tony Shalhoub (“Monk,” HBO’s “Too Big to Fail”).
