Barbados Association of Retired Persons Inc is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Ruall Harris as a Director effective July 26, 2012. Mr Harris is a former senior Civil Servant, having served as Ambassador to the European Union, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Labour, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Home Affairs. He is also a former Executive Director of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce, and a former Director of Banks Holdings Inc and Trustee of the BIMAP. In 2009 he was appointed Chairman of the St George South Constituency Council.

Mr Harris was appointed to fill the causal vacancy occasioned by the election of Dame Billie Miller, BCH, to the position of Vice President at the Annual General Meeting held earlier in July. Dame Billie, an Attorney-at-law by profession, is a former Deputy Prime Minister and Senior Minister of Barbados, whose ministerial portfolios have included Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, International Business, Health, National Insurance, Education, Culture, Tourism, and International Transport.

BARP is a non-profit company which is open to membership to Barbadian citizens and residents 50 years of age and over. With over 33,000 Members, its mandate is to promote the independence and dignity of its Members, and enhance the quality of life of persons in Barbados who are 50 years and over.

At the Annual General Meeting, Sandra Osborne, QC, was also re-elected Secretary, and Maria Asgill, Desmond Crichlow and Robert Williams were all re-elected Directors.

The 2012 to 2013 Board of Directors is Edward Bushell – President, Dame Billie Miller – Vice President, Douglas Skeete – Treasurer, Sandra Osborne – Secretary, and Maria Asgill, Jean Springer, Desmond Crichlow, Robert Williams, and Ruall Harris, Directors.
