Virgin Atlantic & British Women’s Club donate Jubilee Party funds to The Variety Club

Virgin Atlantic Airways’ recently held Jubilee Street party in St. Lawrence Gap provided fun and entertainment for Barbadians and tourist alike. The event also proved to be a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for the Variety Club’s Summer Camp Scholarship programme.

The airline collaborated with the British Women’s Club to provide items for their Diamond Jubilee memorabilia stall and the popular Fun Zone. In addition the British women’s club donated the proceeds from their cake stall and collectively, these efforts raised BDS $5,000.00 for the Variety Club.

Executive Director of the Variety Club Donnah Russell said the funds would be used to assist children who want to attend various developmental summer camps but who are unable to afford the fees. Some of the camps include the Youth Entrepreneurship Camp, the U.W.I. Summer Camp and also some camps geared towards theatre arts and sports. A donation will also be made to Camp Able. A regional camp for the hearing impaired to be held in Barbados this summer.

Caribbean Sales & Marketing manager for Virgin Atlantic Rachel Pilgrim said “Globally we support many children’s organizations through our on-board charity ‘Change for Children’. Supporting children’s charities is part of the Virgin culture and we consider ourselves to be a part of the local community here, so wherever possible we try to lend support to organisations and activities that look after the welfare of our children. We are really pleased that we were able to assist in raising these funds for the Variety Club.”

The funds were officially presented to the Variety Club at Virgin Atlantic’s Hastings office by representatives of the British Women’s Club.
