No rest for Barbados Coast Guard & RBPF: DRUG SEIZURE OFF NORTH POINT (Search ongoing for Epileptic Teen by South Coast)

The operation commenced on Monday evening and about 2.00 am on Tuesday 17 July 2012, the boat was intercepted by the Coast Guard after a chase.

An operation at sea led by the RBPF Drug Squad and assisted by the Barbados Coast Guard, and an element of the RSS, intercepted a go-fast boat at sea 6 nautical miles off North Point, St. Lucy and resulted in the seizure of 33 polythene bags of cannabis, weighing 1394 lbs.

Four (4) men are in custody; 2 Barbadians and 2 Vincentians. It is believed that during the chase, a fifth man fell went overboard. The boat eventually sank.


Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Akeem Hackett, 17 years of Joe’s River Tenantry, St. Joseph, which occurred about 11.00 pm on Monday¬†16 July 2012.

The missing teenager and 5 friends, all of whom are from St. Joseph, were fishing on a cliff overlooking the sea at Paragon, Christ Church. It has been reported that Akeem may have suffered an epileptic seizure and allegedly fell off the cliff towards the sea. Police and personnel from the Barbados Fire Service commenced a search until morning, without success.
