MARIA HOLDER MEMORIAL TRUST TO BUILD SIX MORE NURSERY SCHOOLS IN BARBADOS
The Maria Holder Memorial Trust has committed to working with the Barbados Government to build six more Nursery Schools around Barbados. This was confirmed at the Maria Holder Nursery School’s first graduation ceremony in an address delivered by Mary Brewster, Trustee of the local charity on behalf of its Chairman, Christopher Holder.
The school which now has a roll of 113 children was opened in September 2011 at Sharon, St Thomas and was the first Nursery School built by the Trust in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
Holder noted that the Trust was delighted to see the school operating successfully and was looking forward to being able to open another nursery school in the not too distant future.
“I know that my Mother, in whose name this school is dedicated, would be more than pleased today to see all these smiling faces and to know that the Trust’s contribution has made a difference.” Holder said in his message.
“I wish continued success to the little ones who are moving on to another school and I wish to thank all of the teachers, staff and parents who have worked hard to make the first year of the Maria Holder Nursery School such a big success,” he said, noting that that his mother once told him that “without education you have nothing“.
Supporting young people with education and training is one of the primary objectives of The Maria Holder Memorial Trust, and members of the Trust were on hand at the ceremony to present certificates to staff and parents of the school.
Headmistress, Shelley Boyce in her report expressed satisfaction with the schoool’sachievements for the year and praised her staff for their support and their commitment to the school. She stressed the importance of early childhood education for 3 to 5 year olds and explained that Nursery schools in Barbados included the same curriculum items that are implemented in the Primary School Programme.
During the graduation ceremony the children demonstrated their creativity through performances that delighted the parents as well as representatives of The Maria Holder Memorial Trust.
