Digicel Continues Exciting Promotions to Bring Fans Closer to Cricket
The second leg of the Digicel Series 2012 featuring West Indies against New Zealand has gotten off to an exciting start with West Indies winning the Digicel T20 Series and now leading the Digicel ODI Series coming into the 3rd Digicel ODI at Warner Park, St. Kitts. Digicel, proud sponsor of West Indies Cricket, is also providing its own excitement via its cricket promotions and contests that are being executed around the region in order to bring Caribbean people together around the game; help reignite the passion for and pride in cricket; and demonstrate how important the fans are to the sport and to Digicel.
The Cricket Rewards programme, which was very popular during the West Indies-Australia tour, has been brought back again for the West Indies-New Zealand leg. The purpose of this initiative is to reward fans for their loyalty during the Digicel Series. Fans earn reward points by participating in select online activities, and then spending/redeeming those points for items such as Digicel credit, match tickets, autographed books, jerseys, bats and balls, DVDs, MP4 players, BlackBerry handsets and Kindle Fire devices.
Another fun promotion that allows fans to use their creativity and demonstrate their love for the game is the Cricket Super Fan application on Facebook where users can upload five personal photos which show their history as a West Indies cricket enthusiast. The top 10 photo essays will be selected by Digicel and posted on Facebook for the public to vote for their favourite, and the top three will receive prizes that include BlackBerry handsets and Digicel credit.
Caption The Action will also give fans the opportunity to interact with the game while earning points for the Cricket Rewards programme. DigicelCricket.com will upload an interesting photo each match day for fans to give their own creative spin and description to the action that is taking place within the image. The aim of this application is to see how inventive West Indies cricket fans can be with the humourous moments that are captured at a cricket match.
“The underlying objective of all of Digicel’s campaigns is to drive home the message to our customers, cricket fans and indeed the world, that ‘Wi’ All In’,” said Nicola Sutherland-Hawkes, Digicel Group Sponsorship Manager. “We are committed to bringing the game directly to the fans through initiatives such as the Cricket Rewards programme and the Super Fan promotion, which make the sport more entertaining and more accessible. The theme of ‘Wi’ All In!’ also speaks to our support for this generation of players – and the next generation – coming up through our grassroots initiatives.”
These new promotions will be complemented by the existing marketing activities that Digicel conducts during the Series each year, Sutherland-Hawkes explained. Those include voting for the play of the day on the DigicelCricket.com website, the DigicelCricket.com online trivia contests and the daily radio trivia competition that is done in partnership with Line & Length Network where fans have the opportunity to win great prizes.
