Believe it or not, this is supposed to be Elombe Mottley from the days of Yoruba yard? This is the interpretation of David “Guru” McLean… He recently had a powerful exhibition in the West Wing of Parliament.
Baba Elombe ‘Jakuta’ Mottley has appeared on my website more than once, he looks nothing like this portrayal, which I suspect is considered a romanticism and tribute of Elombe: Man, Myth, Legend & History. One of Barbados’ most crucial griots and and repository of the faith of the future in my own view!
So perhaps this is why I seem a wee bit sensitive in this rendition of his appearance? Head for the City and go to the top of Broad Street, it’s there ’til the start of next month, along with other talents waiting to impress or stun you…
