Kadooment Entrepreneur Responds to Planned American Rap concert for Crop Over

The planned staging of an American Rap music concert in the middle of Crop Over is a gross disrespect to our local entertainment industry, and an insult to our National Festival.

A show of this magnitude would have a negative impact not only on calypso tents but on all our national events that are planned for the season.

Peter Boyce, Manager | "Celebration Time" - "The fact that it includes Rihanna does not change it from being an American Rap event happening at the climax of Crop Over."

We are heartened to hear our Minister of Culture expressing concern over this concert and vowing to represent the interests of the stakeholders in this matter.

While we welcome such an event at any other time of the year, nevertheless, the timing of this Rap event can only be seen as an insidious attempt, to generate revenue at the expense of our local calypso industry and our National Festival and no right thinking Barbadian should support it!

  • EDITOR’S NOTE – The Barbados Tourism Authority has stoutly denied any collaboration with the proposed concert, which is alleged to have approached various private sector entities for sponsorship – as a potential sequel to Rihanna’s “LOUD” concert last year… Which came on the Friday after Kadooment {05/08/2011} which is the first Monday of August.

  1. Barbados in its first Independence celebration in November 1966 welcomed Diana Ross and the Supremes of Motown! The horizon is broad, follow it!
