CRIME STOPPERS BARBADOS LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE BUSINESS PROGRAMME TO COMBAT WHITE COLLAR CRIME
Crime Stoppers Barbados Inc. recently launched a series of sweeping initiatives designed to enhance security in the nation’s workplaces. Under the banner “Crime Stoppers Secure,” this initiative encourages corporations to partner with Crime Stoppers to benefit from a number of services and products designed to make their workplaces safer and more secure.
“Crime Stoppers Secure is a series of major security enhancements for those businesses across Barbados that elect to participate,” commented Oral Reid, Chairman of Crime Stoppers Barbados. “Businesses are now able to demonstrate that they are taking proactive steps to increase safety and security within the workplace. Anyone contemplating wrongdoing within these environments will know that precautions have been taken and procedures put in place to prevent illegal activities, and those who are of the mindset to commit offenses within organisations subscribing to the Crime Stoppers Secure programme be warned: you will very likely be caught and dealt with appropriately.”
There are four components to Crime Stoppers Secure: The Integrity Line; crime prevention and security seminars for staff members; discounts for participating companies on security products and services from leading providers, and basic security assessments & recommendations for the work environment.
The Integrity Line is a dynamic and useful communications tool for employees who feel uncomfortable using more traditional communications channels to report fraud, corruption, money laundering or other forms of wrongdoing in the workplace.
The line operates independently of the traditional Crime Stoppers programme, with calls to a special 800 toll-free number routed to the Crimestoppers Call Centre in the United Kingdom and answered by Integrity Line staff. The staff will identify the organisation(s) about whom the call is related, and forward a transcription of the call to the Chairman of Crime Stoppers Barbados who, in strict confidence, will forward the information to the designated person at the organisation concerned for action.
In addition to the Integrity Line, the Crime Stoppers Secure Programme will offer informative seminars which will be facilitated by Crime Stoppers Barbados.
These informative seminars will provide staff members with information on home and community safety along with an overview of Crime Stoppers and how the system is relevant to all. Participating organisations will also be able to access discounts on security products and services from some of the island’s leading security providers, and through Crime Stoppers Secure will also have basic security assessments performed at their locations. Once the assessment is complete, basic recommendations on security improvements and enhancements will be provided to the organization’s management.
“With the tools now available to the Barbados business community through Crime Stoppers Secure, we are confident that individuals, businesses and organisations will have the opportunity to put policies and procedures in place to make their environments safer and more secure,” continued Mr. Reid.
“By their participation in this subscription programme, businesses will not only show their support to Crime Stoppers Barbados’ ongoing efforts at reducing crime in the country, but will also create environments that are more comfortable for their employees and the general public.”
Participating in the launch along with Chairman Reid were Lalu Vaswani, President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Dave Cording of the UK who is in Barbados as a Special Advisor to Crime Stoppers Barbados.
