Chief Executive Officer of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Rik Parkhill, has announced, subject to regulatory approvals, the appointment of Brian H. Clarke to the position of General Counsel & Corporate Secretary.

Mr. Clarke is based at CIBC FirstCaribbean’s headquarters in Barbados and reports directly to the bank’s Chief Executive Officer.

An experienced legal practitioner, Mr. Clarke joined the bank from the legal firm of Clarke, Gittens & Farmer, where he served that firm and its predecessor, Clarke & Co., for 26 years. An attorney by training, Brian completed his LLB. with honours at the University of the West Indies, and gained a Legal Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.

In making the announcement, Mr. Parkhill noted: “Brian has gained an impressive array of experience in the area of Corporate Commercial Law, specialising in secured lending, and the purchase & sale of Commercial & Residential Property. He has also spent many years advising and representing large entities in the fields of telecommunications, financial services, tourism and energy services, and has developed his own expertise in the areas of Rate Making & Depreciation of Fixed Assets for Public Utilities, Private Participation in Infrastructure Development, Loan Agreements, Project Finance and Corporate Governance.”

Mr. Clarke describes his appointed to the Senior Executive Team of CIBC FirstCaribbean as an honour, and notes that he is eager to take on the challenge of being a part of the leadership of one of the largest financial services companies in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean.

He added:”I have served several entities in the private sector as external counsel for many years. I therefore relish the opportunity to see the issues from within an organization of the size and complexity of CIBC FirstCaribbean, operating as it does within 17 quite different jurisdictions, all with their unique set of regulations and circumstances.
