KFC has stepped up to ensure the secondary school lives of the island’s two top performing girls in this year’s common entrance examination start on the right foot.

Aaliyah Johnson and Rhiana Ruck, both students of the St. Stephen’s Primary School, which KFC has supported in a number of areas over the last few years, achieved identical marks in this year’s examination, making them the two top performers in the island.

Recording 100 and 99 in English and Mathematics respectively, as well as A’s in composition, both girls passed for the Queen’s College Secondary School, where it is expected they would continue their academic excellence.

KFC made a presentation to the two students recently, with each receiving a voucher for a KFC Family meal, in addition to a Bds$250 voucher redeemable at Abed’s, to assist them with purchasing uniforms for the upcoming school year.

Class 4 Year Head and Class Teacher of the two girls, Margaret Thompson, said both Aaliyah and Rhiana exhibited the highest level of commitment in their preparation for the examination, which resulted in them being very confident prior to and after sitting it last month:

“It was noted that from a very young age both Aaliyah and Rhiana were academically gifted and a result I included them in my accelerated class which involved extra lessons on weekends. The parents of the students also provided lots of support, while the students themselves helped each other with peer-to-peer teaching being a significant part of their preparation.”

Ms. Thompson indicated that the rest of the class performed very well, with 20 students scoring above 90 in Mathematics, 12 above 90 in English and 12 recording A’s in composition. She also stated that the performance of the entire Class 4 year level of St. Michael based school was quite acceptable, but stated they would certainly be striving to improve this in the coming years.

Marketing Coordinator at KFC, Shekelia Barrow, said the school’s excellent results were quite pleasing given the effort by the company to support them in their preparation for the examination:

“We’re very proud of Aaliyah, Rhiana and all of the students at St. Stephen’s Primary who sat this year’s Common Entrance Examination. KFC remains committed to supporting the school and its students in their development and will continue to work closely with them in the future.”

Earlier in the year, KFC donated large reams of paper to the school in an effort to assist with the students’ examination preparations. These were used in the printing of past-papers distributed to the students for practice leading up to the big day. As a further boost to their preparations, KFC also presented the Class 4 students with examination packs, containing a clip board, 2 pencils, a sharpener, an eraser and a ruler.
