BARBADOS ARM OF BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION CELEBRATE THE DIAMOND JUBILEE OF ENGLAND’S QUEEN ELIZABETH II

In recognition of the Jubilee, a portrait of Her Majesty The Queen has been hung in pride of place in the lobby of the High Commission. This portrait is an early depiction of the Queen and was formerly displayed at St Winifred’s School. The school now has a modern picture of the Queen, while the portrait has been refurbished and reframed.

This weekend will see the formal celebrations of Her Majesty The Queen’s 60th Diamond Jubilee take place in the United Kingdom and elsewhere around the world.

Staff at the British High Commission in Bridgetown celebrated the Jubilee at a special Diamond Jubilee "tea" party. (Editor's Note - Please observe glass in hand, LOL)

Events will include:

  • The greatest pageant to take place on the river Thames since the seventeenth century – the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant (Sunday 3 June)
  • The Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace (Monday 4 June)
  • The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee beacons around the UK and the Commonwealth – including Barbados and Dominica (Monday 4 June)
  • A celebration by Commonwealth nations in Hyde Park (Saturday 2 – Sunday 3 June)
  • A Church service in St Paul’s Cathedral (Tuesday 5 June) and other celebrations
