The date also marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention, and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The purpose of this internationally recognized event is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well.
Taking place on Thursday 17 May 2012 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hilton Barbados, the seminar entitled “ICT For All” will this year focus on “Women and Girls in ICT”, with several presentations and demonstrations being made by representatives of various players in the industry.
Presenting on behalf of TeleBarbados will be Joseph Herdé, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, who will be discussing the topic “Driving Business through Technology.”
Mr. Herdé said that as an industry leader remains committed to ensuring the enhanced and widespread use of Information & Communications Technology (ICT) by all:
“As both a telecommunications company and professional services provider, we at TeleBarbados know first-hand how technology drives business. After all, we are on the forefront of the implementation of cutting edge solutions that lead to revenue growth, cost savings, and overall business success.”
Mr. Herde further commented:
“It is imperative that ICT be embraced fully, not just by the business sector, but by individuals looking to increase their marketability, by enthusiasts who enjoy keeping up with industry trends and of course, by children, since it is critical to gain knowledge and exposure from an early age. Against that backdrop, we fully support the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry for allowing us the opportunity to partner with them on this initiative, and we look forward to a successful event.”
Other topics to be addressed during the seminar include an official message from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Caribbean-Area Representative, as well as presentations on “ICT for All,” “Women and ICT in Business,” “Enabling Tomorrow’s Technology Today,” and, “Social Media – How to Leverage and Manage it in the Workplace.”
