The Rotaract Club of South Barbados just completed its 2nd annual kite-flying competition, dubbed “Come Fly”.
The project focused upon the art of kite making with a series of free workshops for secondary school children. The workshops concluded with a kite flying competition on Harrison College grounds where students showcased their handiwork.
Eighteen (18) students from seven local secondary schools participated in the three-week workshop held on Saturdays. On competition day, the Springer Memorial Team of Shekinah Toppin and Shoncarra Clarke captured the coveted first prize, whilst the team of Gabriel Williams, Nathania Belle and Sharifa Gibson took the second place. The combined team of Eric Trotman, Mackenzie Luke and Jessica Jamessecured the third prize.
Sponsors of the kite making workshops and kite flying competition included Atlantis Submarine, Harrison’s Cave, Sheraton Mall, Casa Grande, Purity Bakeries, SMJ Beverages, B&B Distribution Ltd. and C&I Hardware.
